I like Peter. I don't think much of Canon!Peter (ie, insane balding wimplike man)... but I've worked so hard on his character in my fics that I've become very attached. My theories are complex and boring, but here they are anyway: Peter was not a wimp at school. Yes, you heard me right. Weaver!Peter was inspired by a guy at my school, who came up to about my waist but who was one of the most popular guys there. I figure, if you're a short male - as in *that* short - you can either dissolve into a bully-magnet or you can develop enough attitude to be taken for twice your size. My Peter took the second option... MartialArts!Peter and even possibly Surfing!Peter, although admittedly there doesn't seem to be many opportunities for surfing around Hogwarts. ::wails:: He was a tough wiry little bloke, methinks, and he was a hell of a lot of fun to be around. So as not to spoil for my fics (which I think I've already bullied Leaves and Thistles into reading, so they'll know what I'm on about ::grins:: ), I'll just say that it was because of love and grief he helped Voldemort, and he didn't turn to the dark side of his own will until Halloween 1981... he just lost the plot that night, I hypothesise, and completely went off the rails: leading to ShriekingShack!Peter, who is a wreck. Hmm, I'm not sure if I'm making any sense at all... perhaps I should just leave this stuff to the experts, sit back, and stick fluffy sparkly stuff everywhere. |

I think Peter was in Gryffindor for the same reason all the others were... he was too brave and loyal and strong an' stuff. I figure, everyone's got a weak point, and maybe Voldy found Peters. Doesn't mean he wasn't just as Gryffie as MPP. *grin*
Yes, I don't see Peter as clumsy at all. Of course because of all the nifty wand-work he does in canon and out, but also because he was short.
Most tall guys are clumsy during adolescence because they haven't gotten used to their new long limbs. Peter, not having to deal with that, would have been more likely to be deft and compact with movement than otherwise.
